Australia – Down Under!

Australia—popularly known as the country “Down Under” as it is the furthest continent in the Southern Hemisphere, below all other major land masses. When you think of Australia you think of the cute Koalas, unique to native Australia.

Most of the people living here are of European origin. The natives are mainland Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. Much of Australia is formed of desert or semi-arid lands called the outback. Some interesting places in Australia include the Great Barrier Reef, found on the northeast coast of Australia, which is the world’s largest coral reef. Australia is also home to the largest monolith called Mount Augustus in Western Australia.

Sydney is one of the most popular cities situated on the southeast coast and built on Port Jackson. This city is also nicknamed “The Harbor City”. The famous Sydney Opera House, which has five theaters and The Harbor Bridge are world famous sites. Other sites in Sydney include the Australian Museum and the Powerhouse Museum, Art Gallery of South Wales, The Museum of Contemporary Art and Australian National Maritime Museum.
