First of all, you need your directional equipments. Carry all the maps you need to carry and compass to guide you through your trip. Since backpacking is mostly about walking you need to ensure that your footwear is in its shape and comfortable. It is also advisable to get hiking socks to avoid blisters coming out. Carry food and water. If you run out of these then you can be assured that you will not enjoy your trip at all. It is best to carry a durable water bottle so that in case you run out of water you can get it refilled any time.

Backpacking generally requires you to carry a tent. Even if you have shelter arrangements at your destination, you might need to halt for a while somewhere else. Other stuff you need will be flashlights, matches, a knife and first aid kits. If you have all these you are good to go!

There are many who do not like to just have a glance at things while moving in a train or flight. They want to cherish each and everything and hence decide to go for backpacking. Backpacking not only allows you to have more of the holiday, it also saves you money.

This means you will carry all the things you need and camp in the night instead of sleeping in a hotel. Even though you opt for spending the night in a hotel, you need to keep all your essentials together so that you do not have to do without it. When you forget something back home, you have only two options: you can buy a new one or adjust.

But this does not mean that you pack each and everything that comes to your hand. If the weight is more, it will be difficult for you to walk. Keep up to three clothing outfit. You can wash one in the night to wear it in the morning. You may also need some headgear.

Apart from clothes and other essentials such as toothpaste etc, carry a sleeping bag if you intend to sleep outdoors. Also keep some mosquito repellant.
