Dorset cliffs are very famous sites for fossil collection all around the world. Here you can hunt for fossils of large animal vertebrates. They have scientific as well as financial importance. Natural erosion can occur at any time of the year so you must follow some safety measures to be prepared to face it.
You can start your fossil hunt from the sea because it is safe place and the mud there is soft making it easy to explore. You must step out for fossil collection when the tide is going out. You cannot just go and start excavating; you must take permission from the authorities.
Dorset is considered as heaven for fossil hunters and there are some cliffs which are very steep and break continuously providing fresh source of fossils and this normally occurs during the winter time. Summer time is not suitable for fossil hunters because very little material is available on the beaches.
