One of the largest festivals of the world, Oktoberfest in Munich happens at a large open area called Weisn, which has enormous tents set up. One can find thousands of people drinking beer and having fun at this festival. One of the major events of the fest is Trachten- und Schützenzug when thousands of leather trousers are carried by Germans following Munich’s Child who wears a large coat and rides a horse, much like St. Martin did.
An interesting thing about the festival is that one can pay only in plastic currency called Biermarke which is available in the tents. The Mayor of Munich taps the first barrel of beer in the beer hall called Schottenhammel and people indulge themselves in 1 liter mugs of beer. One can also enjor German Volksmusik which is the name given to folk music in Germany. The festival also has many Disneyland-like attractions for children as well.
